How it works

  1. Choose your set

Turn whole groups on or off, then mix hiragana and katakana in any combination.

  2. Read, then type

Enter the romaji reading from memory. Common alternate spellings are accepted where they apply.

  3. Review the pattern

Use accuracy, timing, streaks, and character-level results to decide what belongs in the next round.

A few useful notes

Kana quiz FAQ

Can I practice hiragana and katakana together?

Yes. Both scripts can appear in the same session, and every character group can be included or excluded independently.

Which romaji spellings are accepted?

Each kana has its own answer list. Common alternatives are accepted where useful—for example shi and si, chi and ti, or tsu and tu.

What counts as extended katakana?

These are combinations used for sounds common in loanwords, such as ティ (ti), ファ (fa), and ヴォ (vo). You can practice them separately from the core chart.

Does the timer change my score?

No. Accuracy stands on its own. The timer is a practice aid for noticing fluency and can be paused or hidden when you prefer an untimed session.

Where is my progress saved?

Progress is stored locally in this browser. Clearing browser storage removes it, and nothing is tied to an account or uploaded as a personal quiz history.
